Organic Acids in Pig Nutrition – Novel Solutions

چکیده

Organic acids have been for long added into piglet feeds to improve gastric health and post-weaning performance and, more recently, to replace antibiotic growth promoters in these functions. Organic acids lower the buffering capacity of the feed, compensate for the poor gastric acidification and endogenous lactic acid production after weaning, and reduce the numbers of pathogens in the gastro-intestinal tract. While the general effects of organic acids on piglet performance are well documented, there are still many open questions, such as mechanisms of action, comparative efficacy of various acids and role of carriers and coatings. There is increasing body of evidence that organic acids may improve the performance of fattening pigs as well. In addition to target efficacy, the safety and convenience of handling are important issues for the practical use of the products on feed mills and farms.

Acidify to amplify growth performance

The recent complete ban on the use of the antibiotic growth promoting substances by the EU and partly in several other countries worldwide urged nutritionists and animal scientists to seek for alternatives. The use of organic acids in poultry and pig nutrition appears to be an interesting solution that can enhance the eff ect of other feed additives, as well. In combination with other substance...

Cheated Minerals in Animal Nutrition

Chelating is the chemical process by which a mineral (iron, cobalt, copper, zinc, and manganese) is combined with a mixture of amino acids and peptides. The resulting substances are known as chelates. Another descriptive term, proteinates, refers to the amino acid bond. These chelated minerals are thought to be more digestible than nonchelated forms. In other words, chelation makes the minerals...

تأثیر اسیدهای سیتریک و اگزالیک بر ویژگی‌های جذب فسفر در برخی خاک‌های آهکی

Organic acids can affect phosphorus (P) sorption. In order to evaluate the effect of citric acid and oxalic acid on phosphorus sorption characteristics in calcareous soils, five different soil samples (0-30 cm) were collected in West Azerbaijan province. Soil samples (2.5 g) were equilibrated with solutions of KH2PO4 containing 0 to 20 mg P l-1. Five mM organic acids were added to each tube and...

تاثیر تناوب‌های خشک و مرطوب بر رهاسازی برخی عناصر از کانی بنتونیت در حضور اسیدهای آلی

The study of drying and wetting cycles in soils is important due to their effects on plant nutrition and soil fertility as well as environmental issues. Therefore, a laboratory experiment was set up with a completely randomized design and factorial arrangement in three replications to identify the influence of wetting and drying cycles in combination with or without application of organic acids...
